Volunteer Code of Conduct

As a volunteer at Terror for a Cause, you play a crucial role in creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for guests while supporting our mission to give back to the community. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and responsibilities of all volunteers to ensure a positive and respectful experience for everyone involved.

1. Respect and Inclusion

  • Treat all guests, fellow volunteers, and staff with respect, kindness, and professionalism at all times.

  • Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment, free of discrimination, harassment, or bullying based on race, gender, age, ability, religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or background.

  • Use inclusive language and behavior, and be mindful of diverse perspectives and experiences.

  • Respect personal boundaries and obtain explicit consent before engaging in interactive scare experiences.

  • Actively listen to concerns or feedback from guests and fellow volunteers, and address them respectfully.

2. Safety First

  • Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of guests, volunteers, and staff at all times.

  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, including fire safety, emergency evacuation procedures, and equipment handling.

  • Refrain from touching guests unless part of a clearly defined, consensual, and safe interaction.

  • Immediately report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to House Manager(s).

  • Refrain from engaging in reckless or dangerous behavior that could harm yourself or others.

 

3. Professional Conduct

  • Arrive on time for all scheduled shifts, and notify House Manager(s) as early as possible if you are unable to attend.

  • Come prepared for your assigned roles and responsibilities, with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

  • Follow instructions from supervisors and respect the leadership structure.

  • Avoid using inappropriate language, gestures, or behavior that could reflect poorly on the organization.

  • Refrain from the use of alcohol, drugs, or being under the influence while volunteering.

  • Handle disagreements or conflicts in a calm, respectful manner, and seek assistance from a House Manager if needed.

4. Commitment to the Mission

  • Uphold the mission of Terror for a Cause to support community organizations through volunteer service and fundraising efforts.

  • Act in a manner that positively represents the organization and contributes to its community goals.

  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a spirit of service among volunteers.

  • Be open to feedback and strive for continuous improvement in your volunteer role.

5. Confidentiality and Integrity

  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of fellow volunteers, staff, and guests. Do not share personal or sensitive information without consent.

  • Be honest and transparent in your volunteer activities, and communicate openly with House Manager(s).

  • Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential concerns to House Manager(s).

  • Handle organizational property and resources responsibly and ethically.

6. Costume and Appearance

  • Follow costume guidelines provided by the organization to ensure a cohesive and safe presentation.

  • Ensure that costumes are safe, non-offensive, and appropriate for a family-friendly environment.

  • Maintain good personal hygiene and ensure costumes and props are clean and well-maintained.

  • Avoid costumes that could be considered culturally insensitive or inappropriate.

7. Social Media and Representation

  • Represent the organization positively in all public and online interactions.

  • Refrain from posting unauthorized photos, videos, or content related to the haunted house or its operations.

  • Do not share internal or behind-the-scenes information without approval.

  • Obtain consent from individuals before posting photos or videos that include them.

 

8. Accountability and Feedback

  • Be open to constructive feedback and use it as an opportunity to improve your volunteer performance.

  • Address concerns with supervisors in a respectful and professional manner.

  • Accept responsibility for actions and behavior that may not align with this Code of Conduct.

By volunteering with Terror for a Cause, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disciplinary action, including reassignment, suspension, or dismissal from volunteer duties.
